Prof Kazuo Sugiyama

Kazuo Sugiyama was a Professor of Graduate School of Science and Technology, Chiba University, Japan before undertaking a position of vice dean at Graduate School of Design & IT, Dongseo University, Korea. He received his doctorate degree in Engineering from Tokyo University in 1987. He has participated in the design of many major bridges in Japan and his winning of international bridge competition of Young-jong bridge in Korea in 1991 has brought him many opportunities to design of bridges in Korea too. His research interests range from aesthetic aspects of bridge design to the use of neural network and genetic algorithm techniques as design tool, and he has supervised a large number of doctoral candidates researching these areas. He is now Fellow member and Superior professional engineer of Japan Society of Civil Engineering, the president of the Japanese Society for the Science of Design since April of 2004 and the vice president of the International Association of Societies of Design Research since January of 2006.
