PolyU has been an important hub of design education and research for Hong Kong since 1964. Providing design education from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, the School is ranked as one of the top design schools in the world by BusinessWeek and the first in Asia among the top 25 in the world by Business Insider. In August 2013, the School will reach a major milestone when it moves to Jockey Club Innovation Tower, a purpose-built facility for design designed by award winning architect Zaha Hadid.
Research has been a cornerstone of PolyU Design with topics focusing on pillars including Communication Design, Public and Space, and Design Foundation. It reaches the top in productivity in academic journals in Asia.
PolyU Design’s specialisms include advertising, environment and interior design, product design, communication design, interactive and digital media. Programs are offered at higher diploma, bachelor, master, and PhD levels. Its Master of Design (Design Strategies) program was rated by the BusinessWeek among the world’s best “design thinking programs”.

HKDI’s curricula are purposely designed to ensure relevance and responsiveness to industry development. Our wide-ranging programmes are offered by four academic departments – Design Foundation Studies, Communication Design and Digital Media, Fashion and Image Design and Product and Interior Design. HKDI graduates’ qualifications are highly recognised in the market and have achieved successes in different areas of design. Our Higher Diploma graduates may choose to pursue Top-up Degree programmes and attain degree qualifications within one or two years.
