Changing Design Education for Innovation: A 3D "T-shaped" Design Education Framework

In this new era, design must and is currently being redefined. In this talk, I’ll introduce the 3D T-shaped design education framework, which has been practiced in the College of Design and Innovation at Tongji University. It demonstrated a way of structuring knowledge and planning the learning process to educate the next generation of sustainable design innovation. I’ll also use some Tongji examples to explain how to reform the design foundation education to prepare the students with the new ways of thinking and creating; and how to develop innovative design education patterns through integrating and re-organizing knowledge in various disciplines to better address today’s real world challenges.
