Elizabeth MCLAFFERTY




Elizabeth McLafferty is the Head of the Department of Fashion and Image Design at the Hong Kong Design Institute since 2011, prior to joining the HKDI, she had extensive teaching experience at the London College of Fashion.


She is a specialist in professional image design and fashion styling with wide range of experience from teaching to the fashion industries, from theatrical image to contemporary fashion themes.  Her highlight projects included wig dressing and make up for the London’s West End shows including The Phantom of The Opera, Les Misérables and Aspects of Love, consultant at make-up and styling programmes at national radio and BBC, make-up and styling director for Beauty Zone TV, judge for various make-up and styling contest and make-up stylist in fashion shows. 


Before she joined the HKDI, she held the post of Principal Lecturer International Developments and managed and led on international collaborative arrangements for the School.


Collaborating with many internationally renowned fashion brands to support and develop a more international approach to practice based teaching.   Her writings could be found at the Encyclopedia of Clothing and Fashion, published in 2004. 


Ms McLafferty holds a Master degree in Fashion Studies from London College of Fashion, Bachelor of Arts in Education and Training from University of Greenwich as well as a certificate of Theatrical Studies (make-up) from London College of Fashion.
