School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
PolyU Design has been an important hub of design education and research for Hong Kong since 1964. The School is ranked top in Asia and 24th globally in the area of art and design of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2015. Academic programmes are offered at higher diploma, bachelor, master, and doctoral levels, in highly diverse design expertise including Product Design, Communication Design, Advertising Design, Digital Media, Interior Design, Environment Design, Urban Design, International Design and Business Management, Design Management, Meaningful Innovation, Design Strategy and Interaction Design.

The School provides a high level, well equipped teaching and learning environment in the Jockey Club Innovation Tower, a landmark building designed by Zaha Hadid. It has launched the Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation, the first of its kind in Asia, to actively foster new approaches and new fields of design expertise.

The state-of-the-art HKDI campus at Tiu Keng Leng is an international award-winning architecture tailor-made for quality design education. Designed to encourage a dynamic flow of people and ideas, and equipped with the latest learning facilities and exhibition spaces, it enhances the creative learning experience at HKDI.

Derived from the “think-and-do” approach, our comprehensive design programmes encourage active participation and nurture our students’ creative thinking, cultural sensitivity and global perspective. Active collaborations with industry such as joint projects and attachment programmes provide our students with first-hand knowledge of the latest industry trends.

HKDI’s curricula are purposely designed to ensure relevance and responsiveness to industry development. Our wide-ranging programmes are offered by four academic departments – Design Foundation Studies, Communication Design and Digital Media, Fashion and Image Design and Product and Interior Design. HKDI graduates’ qualifications are highly recognised in the market and have achieved successes in different areas of design. Our Higher Diploma graduates may choose to pursue Top-up Degree programmes and attain degree qualifications within one or two years.
